Education

As part of its mission, IPI provides training for professionals in the field of preservation and conservation.

Preserving Photographs in a Digital World

This week-long program of lectures and workshops on traditional photo collection preservation techniques was held from 1995-2008. It expanded the attendees' expertise on what materials are typically found in photo collections, how they deteriorate, how to store and protect them, and how preservation fits in with other collection activities. The program provided opportunities for group interaction and individual attention from instructors. The yearly workshop concluded in 2008.

Advanced Residency Program in Photograph Conservation

This two-year program was hosted by George Eastman House and IPI. It offered fellowships to a select group of early- to mid-career conservators who came to Rochester, New York, to specialize in photograph conservation. The program was launched in 1999 to address the need for advanced education and training opportunities in photograph conservation and concluded in 2009.
